Amending the Mental Health Act

Ottawa Centre Liberal MPP Richard Patten is seeking changes to provincial laws that would allow psychiatric patients with a history of violence to be forcibly treated and monitored.

Patten recently told a coroner’s inquest that he plans to provide for community treatment orders in his private member’s bill to amend the Ontario Mental Health Act. read more

Royal Bank automated teller brings a new voice to Centretown banking

A new automated bank machine in the Royal Bank at 99 Bank St. is the first step in a co-ordinated effort to make businesses user-friendly for people with disabilities.

Sharlyn Ayotte is president of T-Base Research and Development Inc., an Ottawa business that creates information technology for people with visual disabilities.
T-Base is a personal crusade for Ayotte, 45, who lost her sight nearly 20 years ago. read more

‘Dysfunctional’ library wants $$

$9.5 million needed for improvement to services
