Among the family of government structures on Parliament Hill, the Confederation Building sits on the western side of the Parliament. Since its opening in 1931, the building’s exquisite architectural design has captured the attention of tourists and Ottawans alike.
It is on the corner of Elgin and Wellington where we see the story of Major Paul Triquet, one of the last Canadian recipients of the Victoria Cross. The award represents “an act of valour or self-sacrifice, or extreme devotion to duty in the face of the enemy.”
Built in 1832, Christ Church Cathedral is one of the oldest churches in Ottawa.
Facing the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Captain John Wallace Thomas seems to be staring down at something, or someone, slightly to his left. His is the only bust on that rail of the Valiants Memorial with a small tilt on the head.
