Luca Cipolla teaches scuba diving and does beach cleanup from his business in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic.
While the pandemic has been bad for his business, Cipolla says the lull in activity has allowed beach cleaners like himself to make a dent in local plastic pollution.
The 25th Hour’s Graham Swaney is currently living in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. He spoke with Cipolla to learn more about why pollution is down, and what is being done to keep it that way when the tourists come back.
