Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, almost 20 per cent of Canadians reported an increase in alcohol consumption, according to the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction. For those struggling with sobriety, the lockdown has been especially difficult. Support from groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous has been reduced or moved online.
Yamikani Msosa has been sober for six years. Yoga has been a big part of staying sober. They want to give BIPOC women and femmes of colour a sense of community while in isolation. To do this, Yamikani is teaching virtual yoga classes focused on sobriety.
