Airport ramps approved

Regional council has also given the go-ahead for the construction of ramps that will give commuters from Hunt Club easier access to the Airport Parkway.

But this decision has been met with criticism.

John Kane, president of the Glebe Community Centre Association, says increased traffic on the Airport Parkway will mean traffic congestion in the Glebe and Centretown.

Kane says heavier traffic means more vehicles cutting through smaller streets where children play.
“There’s not much we can do,” says Kane. “We asked the province to review this project twice but they refused both times.”

Regional Coun. Diane Holmes says she sympathizes with Kane and is “strongly opposed” to the Hunt Club ramps.

Holmes says she feels increased traffic will undermine the light rail project.

She says ramp construction should wait until the rail project proves to be a success.

Council wants to finish the ramps by year’s end.
