The Ottawa Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of David Thies-Thompson, presents its annual Christmas concert, featuring a performance of Peter and the Wolf narrated by CBC Ottawa’s Laurence Wall. The Ottawa Humane Society, 101 Champagne Ave. S, is holding its annual SAVE Fund holiday sale until Dec. 24. Special gifts for pets and pet lovers from holiday crafts and pet toys to 2006 animal calendars and leashes-will be sold to help raise money for the OHS’s SAVE Fund. The SAVE (Staff Animal Veterinary Emergency) Fund helps to provide special medical treatment to sick or injured animals in the shelter who otherwise might not be adoptable. Monday to Fridays, 12 noon to 7 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The Salvation Army is seeking volunteers for its Christmas Kettle Campaign from Nov. 24 until Dec. 24. The volunteers will stand at a Cheer Kettle that will be located at all major shopping centres and retail outlets. This year’s goal is $375,000. The Glebe Centre is operating their first annual “Poinsettias for Promise” program this Holiday season. Poinsettias are available for purchase starting at $20 per plant and come in a variety of colours. Make someone’s holiday season special this year and have a poinsettia delivered to their home or work. Brighten your office, or thank a colleague or client for their patronage during the past year. The 742 National Capital Air Cadet Squadron is seeking recruits! It is a great opportunity for boys and girls aged 12-18 who are interested in aviation. The program and uniforms are free.
