Join us for a slide-show excursion to some of Jane Austen’s favourite spots in Hampshire and Kent. Entertaining hosts Beric and Elizabeth Graham-Smith will dress in period costume and pianist Elizabeth Graham-Smith will play music from the period. Wine and cheese. Tickets are $20 on sale in the church office and after Sunday 10 a.m. services.

The Salvation Army’s Annual Red Shield Breakfast, “A Salute to the Canadian Forces, “ will be held April 28 from 7:30-9 a.m at the Ottawa Congress Centre. Tickets are $50 each or $500 for a table of 10. Guest speaker, door prize and musical entertainment with all proceeds going to local programs and services. For more information please call 233-8428.

Musica Viva Singers, now based at the Church of St. Barnabas on James Street, present their musical achievements to you in a concert entitled ‘Study War No More — Songs For Peace’ on April 30, at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral. Under the leadership of James Calkin, the concert features Haydn’s powerful Missa in Angustiis, also known as the Nelson Mass, evoking both the angst of a long war and a sublime confidence and hope for peace.The second half of the concert features songs about peace: Verleih uns Frieden gnädiglich by Felix Mendelssohn — a setting of Martin Luther’s prayer for peace, and Dona nobis pacem by Winnipeg composers Helen Litz and Annette Hay. Following the concert, there will be a reception in the Cathedral Hall. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students, available in advance from Christ Church Cathedral Box Office, Compact Music, 785 Bank Street in the Glebe and downtown at 190 Bank Street, and Leading Note Music, 370 Elgin Street. We are looking for dynamic volunteers over the age of 18 from May 31 to June 2 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. onsite for the following areas: Box office and information, greeters for school audiences, site maintenance, creativity tent, ushers and traffic controllers.
