The Ottawa Human Society’s annual “Pet Pics with Santa” continues at selected shopping centre until Dec. Bring your furry friend to a participating location and receive a 4×6 digital photo in a holiday frame. Photos are $10 each and all proceeds will benefit animals in need. St. Andrew’s Church, 82 Kent St., is holding a Scottish Tea and Bazaar from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Attic treasures, baking, books, crafts, games, jewelry will be featured as well as a silent auction and team room.

Taking the Heat: African Farmers and Climate Change is the topic of a public forum from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Bronson Centre, 211 Bronson Ave. Learn how African farmers and rural communities are coping with the impact of climate change. What solutions can Africans offer and how can Canadians help? The forum is sponsored by the Canadian Food Security Policy Group and the Canadian Coalition on Climate Change and Development. Dec. 9

Glebe St. James Church, 650 Lyon St., presents Heather Dale at 7 p.m. Dale brings her lively Celtic/folk music back to Ottawa. Dale and her partner play more than a dozen different folk instruments and offer a great mix of original and traditional Christmas songs. Admission is $12 for aduts and $6 for seniors and children.

The Good Companions Centre has an interesting variety of volunteer opportunities: dining room server, cashier, receptionist, telephone receptionist. Volunteers are needed immediately for the coffee kiosk at the new Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, Carling at Merivale. The auxiliary of the Ottawa Humane Society meets at 1:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the Real Canadian Superstore, 190 Richmond Rd. New members are welcome. The auxiliary raises money for animals at the shelter and has a very active craft circle. For more information call 613-836-1492.
