Arson suspect to appear in court Wednesday

The 31-year-old man charged with setting fire to an office building on the corner of Bank and Somerset Streets on Sept. 15 will appear in Ottawa court again Oct. 8

Robert Patrick Gill was arrested near Bank Street and Laurier Avenue on Wednesday afternoon in connection with a $4-million fire at 275 Bank Street and charged with one count each of arson and break and enter.  The building houses the offices of the Bangladesh High Commission, the U.S. Defense Contract Management Agency, as well as several businesses.

Police said Gill was arrested while they were investigating a second suspicious fire in the building early Wednesday morning. They added there is no evidence that the building was targeted because of its tenants. No one has been charged in the second fire and there is no indication if the two fires were connected.
