A body found at 323 Catherine St. is removed shortly after noon on Thursday, Oct. 16.

Police are investigating after a woman's body was found early Thursday morning behind a house across from the Ottawa Bus Central Station.

Police responded to a call and arrived at 323 Catherine St. at around 6:45 a.m.

Sgt. Rob Hagarty says police consider the death "suspicious."

A team of men in white jumpsuits transferred the body onto a gurney and placed it in the back of a coroner's van around noon, as neighbours and people working in the area looked on.

"We didn't see anything," says Michael Thompson, 23, who lives in the house.

"You always hear about things like this happening, but never to you," he said

A woman wishing only to identify herself as Catherine says she walked by the house Tuesday around 11 p.m.

"I noticed the house beside it was wide open, with all its lights on," she said. "Something seemed unusual and out of the ordinary."

Neighbours passing by said police often patrol the area and that the area has a negative reputation, largely linked to incidents at the Greyhound bus station across the street.

Police say a post-mortem on the woman's body is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
