Fifty Ottawa teaching positions are set to be cut in the next two years.

According to media reports, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board staff is recommending cuts to 35 teaching jobs in the 2010-2011 school year and an additional 17 jobs in 2011-2012.

The cuts which will result in $2.4 million in savings for the board will dominantly affect elementary school teachers; however, five high school jobs will also get the axe including ESL positions.
