Three seek NDP provincial nomination

Three candidates have stepped forward to seek the NDP nomination in Ottawa Centre for the October provincial election.

Erica Braun, Anil Naidoo and Will Murray will vie for the nomination at a meeting on March 9 at the Royal Canadian Legion at 330 Kent St. beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Braun, a graduate of the master’s program in social work at Carleton University, has worked with youth and homeless adults for 12 years. Naidoo is a campaigner for the Council of Canadians, a citizens’ advocacy group that focuses on social and economic issues. Murray is a local lawyer who was a candidate in the last provincial election.

Only those who are members 30 days before that time can vote.

The riding is currently held by Liberal Yasir Naqvi, parliamentary secretary to the minister of education, who was re-nominated in November to contest the riding for the government party.

The provincial election will be held on Oct. 6.
