Chinatown BIA appoints new executive director

Local lawyer Khanh Vu Duc has been appointed executive director of the Somerset Street Chinatown BIA, effective March 31.

A graduate from the Law School of the University of Ottawa, Vu Duc is of Vietnamese descent and has been in private practice since 2007. He is currently president of the Rotary Club of Hull and is a member of the board of directors of the Somerset West Community Health Centre.

He had previously been the BIA’s board of management vice-chairman and its legal counsel. He also served as president of centre de Placement Spécialisé du Portage in Gatineau.

Earlier in his career, he was the assistant to the director of international banking for the Credit Lyonnais Belgium in Brussels.

Vu Duc is fluent in English, French and Vietnamese. He is married to Phuong Tran and is the father of three children: Richard, Sophie and Victoria.

He replaces Grace Xin, who left last fall to take a job with the Tourism Industry Association of Canada.
