Ottawa Centre recorded the fourth-highest voter turnout in the country in the May 2 federal election, Elections Canada statistics indicate.
In re-electing NDP incumbent Paul Dewar, 75 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots, placing it just behind Cardigan and Malpeque in Prince Edward Island and Saanich-Gulf Islands in British Columbia in voter turnout. Ottawa-Orleans was sixth and Nepean-Carleton, eighth.
Voter participation in Ottawa Centre exceeded both the national and Ottawa turnout, at 61 per cent and 68.3 per cent respectively.
Dewar defeated seven other candidates, garnering 52 per cent of the Ottawa Centre vote.
