City council approves Cathedral Hill redesign

City council today approved the redesign of the development plans for Cathedral Hill.

The development features a 12-storey office building, a 21-storey condominium and a row of four townhouses at 412 Sparks St.

Though initially approved in May, the project underwent a redesign to mitigate impact of the 12-storey office building on the Church Christ Cathedral.

Somerset Ward Coun. Diane Holme’s expressed her concern in a staff report submitted to the planning committee, claiming that the office building is excessively tall and would “overwhelm the cathedral.”

The new designs won the support of the city staff and the city’s planning committee earlier this month.
