Ontario voter turnout was at an all-time low across the province and Ottawa Centre residents contributed to the trend with four per cent fewer registered voters casting their ballot on Oct. 6.
Only 54 per cent of eligible voters went to the polls this year in Ottawa Centre, re-electing Liberal incumbent Yasir Naqvi with almost 47 per cent of the total votes cast, according to initial statistics released by Elections Ontario.
Voter turnout in Ottawa Centre was still higher than the provincial average. Only 49.2 per cent of eligible voters across Ontario went to the polls to vote in a minority Liberal government.
Ontario NDP candidate Anil Naidoo of the Ottawa Centre district trailed Naqvi with 29 per cent of votes. PC Party candidate Rob Dekker got 18 per cent, followed by Kevin O’Donnell of the Green Party, with just four per cent.
