Santa takes to the streets

Thousands of Santa-lovers flooded into downtown Ottawa Saturday night for the 42nd annual Santa Claus parade.

The parade route saw roughly a dozen floats and marching groups snake their way from the Canadian War Museum to city hall.

Marchers walked under an arch formed by two fire truck ladders over Laurier Street at Elgin Street, which marked the end of the route.

Aside from Santa, participants in the parade included Irish fiddle dancers, a dragon boat crew and in-costume Star Wars fans.

The colourful procession passed by the Occupy Ottawa site at Confederation Park across from city hall, though demonstrators were not stirred from their tents by the parade.

The “Help Santa Toy Parade” was organized by the Ottawa Professional Firefighters Association, and collects donations for underprivileged children.
