City imposes overnight parking ban

An overnight parking ban has been imposed across the city, according to a news release.

The City of Ottawa says the parking restrictions are in effect from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. until further notice.

The ban is automatically enforced when Environment Canada forecasts snow accumulation of at least seven centimetres, making it easier for crews to plow the streets, the city’s winter parking webpage says.

During the ban, vehicles parked on any street will be ticketed and towed to another nearby street that has already been cleared by city workers. The vehicle is logged and its owner can locate it by contacting Ottawa Police Services.

The prohibition doesn’t include vehicles with on-street parking permits, except in locations where red no-parking snow removal signs have been posted.

Residents can receive notifications about overnight parking restrictions, and when they have been lifted, by subscribing to the city’s winter parking e-alerts or following its Twitter account, “@ottawaparking.”
