City council voted Wednesday to extend Chinatown’s free street parking on Saturdays until July 2013.
The exemption, which allows free Saturday parking on Somerset Street from Bronson Avenue to Preston Street, was supposed to end this month but has been postponed after city staff revealed they are preparing an overall parking report.
The exemption has been in effect since 2010. Since that time, the Somerset Chinatown BIA has reported increased commercial activity which it attributed to the free Saturday parking, according to a transportation committee report.
