Student protest disrupts Centretown traffic

Traffic moving through Centretown was slowed this morning by students marching on Parliament Hill to demand lower tuition.

Ottawa police say they used rolling road closures between 11:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. as students walked from the University of Ottawa to Parliament Hill.

Police closed intersections and roads as the protest passed and reopened them once they moved on.

While Parliament Hill is under the jurisdiction of the RCMP, they worked in conjunction with the Ottawa police to maintain safety.

Police media representatives said they had plenty of notice for today’s march, as students had applied for a permit weeks ago.
