Environment Canada warns of soaker Monday

As much as 25 to 40 mm of rain are forecast for the Ottawa region because of a moisture-laden cold front moving across Ontario, according to an Environment Canada weather advisory for Monday morning.

The colder air is expected to bring multiple showers, including a small chance of thunderstorms in Eastern Ontario, before it moves into Quebec.

Aside from the wet weather, no significant impacts are expected, says Geoff Coulson, a warning preparedness meteorologist for Environment Canada.

“Over the last couple of weeks, we haven’t had significant rainfall,” says Coulson.  “There’s a bit more of a capacity for the ground to absorb it.”

He added that the rain should be spread out over a number of hours. This is in stark contrast to Toronto’s flash flood in July, which resulted from nearly 100 mm of rain within two hours.

Precipitation in all regions is expected to taper off by midnight.
