Fire at Chateau Laurier

Fire crews were called in to extinguish a small fire at the Chateau Laurier hotel on Thursday afternoon.

Fire alarms went off at 12:23 pm, after a fire started between the window frames of rooms 169 and 171. No one was injured in the fire, the Ottawa Fire Services Twitter account said.

Hotel staff and guests were evacuated from the first floor of the hotel after the alarms went off. Fire crews determined the area was safe about 30 minutes later.

Roofing contractors were working on the courtyard roof of the hotel when the fire started, Deneen Perrin, the hotel’s director of public relations says.

Fire crews are investigating the specific cause of the fire.
