Somerset Coun. Diane Holmes has officially filed her papers to run for re-election later this year.
This makes Holmes the fifth candidate to enter the race for Ward 14.
Holmes has represented Somerset ward for the past decade. She told the Ottawa Sun that she is excited for the next year.
Martin Canning is one of the candidates in the race for Ward 14. He says he recognizes that Holmes has consistently been a community favourite in the downtown ward.
“Coun. Holmes has a long history of community support and she, like many organizations and individuals in downtown Ottawa, has been central in the evolution of downtown Ottawa,” Canning said.
Other candidates on the Somerset ballot include Denis Schryburt, Lili Weeman and Thomas McVeigh, president of the Centretown Citizens Community Association.
The election will take place on Oct. 27.
