The Centretown Citizens Community Association is seeking candidates to fill a seat on its board of directors.
The vacancy comes after former president Thomas McVeigh, who was elected last fall, resigned in January to run in Somerset ward for a seat on city council in the upcoming election.
The vacancy left from McVeigh’s departure is “unique” for the CCCA, which usually only elects board members once a year, said Robert Dekker, vice-president of the association.
“It is very rare, most people will not resign from their position on the board until the AGM when we canvass all the members of the board and see who will be interested in running again and what vacancies we have,” said Dekker.
After McVeigh stepped down, the board decided that former vice-president Lauren Rock would take over as interim president. The new president will be elected at the 2015 annual general meeting held in the fall.
Dekker said that in addition to attending scheduled monthly meetings, the new board member would be somebody who is interested in the future of the community and has an interest in its development.
“We’re looking for someone who is concerned about what is happening in Centertown and wants to work within the Community Association to affect a positive change and to affect the outcome of some of the decisions of the council,” Dekker said.
The successful candidate will be elected at the next board meeting on March 18.
