Ottawa Police officer charged with impaired driving

An off-duty police officer with the Ottawa Police Service has been charged with impaired driving after an incident on Thursday.

Sgt. Mark Barclay, 55, was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol level over 80 milligrams, according to a police press release.

Barclay was charged after the police received a traffic complaint from a member of the public around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to Inspector Joan McKenna of the Ottawa Police Professional Standards Section.

McKenna said the incident took place in the Barrhaven area.

Barclay has been assigned to administrative duties and is scheduled to appear in court on March 25.

The OPS Professional Standards Section, which investigates complaints about Ottawa Police members’ conduct, is investigating the incident leading up to the court date.
