It is official: the entire light rail system in Ottawa will be called “O-Train.”
The city transit commission met Wednesday morning to deliberate the name of the LRT in Ottawa and decided on “O-Train.”
The name connects with both Ottawa as the city and OC Transpo as the name of the city’s transit system, a report from city staff stated.
“The identity is easily read, pronounced, understood, and remembered in both English and French,” stated the report.
The commission also decided individual names for each line to make it easier for transit users to identify.
The east-west line is to be named “Confederation Line” and the north-south line to be called “Trillium Line.”
In other cities across Canada, transit systems often use colors, numbers, or names to distinguish lines.
“Having a separate name for each line allows for clarity,” said the transit planning committee at the meeting.
Construction of the LRT is currently undergoing and is expected be in service by 2018.
