Ottawa’s newly-opened TD Place will host the Canadian men’s curling championship — the Tim Hortons Brier — from March 5-13, 2016.
“Ever since the building renovations started at TD Place, we’ve been wanting to put a major event there,” said Canadian Curling Association CEO Greg Stremlaw in an online statement.
“Ottawa has a great tradition of hosting major championships, including three Briers, and the curling fans in the city are extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable.”
The last time Ottawa hosted the Brier was in 2001 at the Ottawa Civic Centre, now known as TD Place Arena, reported the Ottawa Citizen.
The round-robin competition will feature 11 teams composed of provincial and territorial champions and the Team Canada winner of the 2015 Brier, which will be held in Calgary, Alta., according to Stremlaw’s statement.
