The Ottawa Police Services plans to hire 38 new constables in 2015, according to a police press release.
The process will take place in three waves, said Ottawa police Sgt. Andy Moore. Twelve candidates will be hired in the late summer, 12 in the fall and the rest in December.
New officers are being hired to balance attrition in the workforce; the numbers may change depending on retirements and transfers, he said.
The hiring process is open to all in Ottawa and, according to the press release, the police are looking to “reflect the diversity of our community.”
No previous policing or security experience is required, said Moore, but many applicants have a high-school diploma and some work experience.
“We certainly look for people who are driven to serve the community,” he said.
For interested applicants, there will be an information session on Jan. 15 at the Ben Franklin Place on Centrepointe Drive from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
