Three people in hospital after Centretown fire

Three residents were taken to hospital after a fire in a Centretown apartment Friday evening, according to a press release from the Ottawa Fire Services.

At 5 p.m. the Ottawa fire department was alerted to smoke coming from an apartment at 360 Bell Street South by a fire monitoring company, and a 911 caller reported smoke coming from the 11th floor, the release said.

The release reported smoke was seen coming out of the back of the building, and there was damage to both the apartment where the fire started as well as an adjacent hallway.

The entire 11th floor was evacuated and OC Transpo provided busses for people to stay warm. Approximately 20 people are displaced and Ottawa fire estimates damages will exceed $200,000.

There were no fire fighter injuries and the causes for the fire are being investigated.
