Guns and drugs seized in Centretown building by police

Two people were arrested and charged with firearms and drug offences by Ottawa police on Thursday.

On March 26, police found handguns, ammunition and cocaine at a building on the 400 block of Cambridge Street South, Ottawa Police Services said in a news release.

No one was there during the search and police said the building was being used as a place to keep drugs and guns.

Mohammed Hisham Shabib, 28, and Victoria Buwalda-Auguste, 20, will appear in court later today.

Ottawa Police received an additional $9 million in funding this year, part of which will be used to fight guns and gangs, according to Police Chief Charles Bordeleau.

A record 49 shootings took place in Ottawa last year.
