Fire fighters respond to a fire in the ByWard Market

Clarence Street between Parent Avenue and Dalhousie Street is now open, the Ottawa police announced in a news release.

A Sunday morning fire at 87 Clarence St. closed the street down to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. This is in ByWard Market, just east of Centretown.

Firefighters responded to a 911 call at 4 a.m. reporting black smoke coming from the Steak and Sushi restaurant. Once they arrived, responders declared it a two-alarm fire due to the fire’s intensity, Ottawa Fire Services reported in a news release.

No one was inside the building during fire and no one was reported injured, according to the news release. Ottawa firefighters are still investigating the scene. The cause of the fire and cost of damages are still unknown.
