McKenna is new environment minister

Liberal MP for Ottawa Centre, Catherine McKenna, has been sworn-in as Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

The ceremony took place at Rideau Hall this morning, and included the traditional swearing-in of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his new cabinet members. McKenna is one of 15 women sworn-in to the 31-member cabinet.

McKenna, 44, was considered to be the underdog of the recent federal election, upsetting NDP candidate Paul Dewar with 42 per cent of the vote.

McKenna is an international trade lawyer and is also a member of Prime Minister Trudeau’s Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee.
