Uber introduces program to assist passengers with disabilities

Uber introduced a specialized program called uberASSIST to Ottawa residents via email Wednesday morning that will serve seniors and customers with disabilities.

Drivers offering to this service are trained at the Open Doors Organization – an  international not-for-profit organization based out of Chicago, IL – where they learn how to assist passengers in entering vehicles, and in transporting wheelchairs, walkers and scooters.

uberASSIST can be accessed from the Uber app on mobile phones. The rates for the new service are the same as standard Uber rates in the area, however extra charges for larger vehicles will not apply.
