Winter storm warning in effect for Ottawa

Snow returns to the capital on Thursday, after a few weeks of warm spring-like weather.

A winter storm warning is in effect for Ottawa and its surrounding regions all-day.

Environment Canada is calling for 10 to 15 cm of snow and ice pellets to accumulate, with winds reaching between 40 to 60 km/h. The temperature is expected to drop to minus 7 this afternoon, and the ice pellets will be changing to freezing rain this evening and overnight.

School buses are cancelled as a safety precaution and there are also flight cancellations at the Ottawa Airport.

Motorists should be cautious on the roads today, as conditions are already slippery.

The weekend is expected to be sunny and warm, with highs in and around the double digits.
