A new, global taxi app was announced in Ottawa today.

eCab, an international mobile app, is already used in more than 30 cities around the globe.

It is free to download and it adapts to every city, automatically linking users to local cab companies. Whether the ride is from Blueline or Capital, it arrives at your doorstep within minutes.

“We are delighted to partner with the Blue Line and Capital Taxi fleets because we share a strong, customer-centric approach,” explains Gilles Gomis, regional head of eCab.

Users have a wide range of options when using eCab, such as choosing wheelchair accessible vehicles, pre-booking rides, instant ratings for drivers, and the choice to pay cashless.

Though some may argue that this app is similar to Uber, Hanif Patni, president and CEO of Coventry Connections, one of the largest operators of taxis in Canada, says the two services are different.

“Customers want drivers who are checked by police and insured. They do not want the untrained part-time transient drivers. An app like eCab brings big value to customers,” says Patni.

eCab can be downloaded on Apple and Android smartphones, or sign up online at: www.e-cab.com.
