Construction has begun on the Federal Government’s new building for the Department of Finance.
The 17-storey building will be a redevelopment of the Lorne Building at 90 Elgin St. and will be leased to the federal government for 25 years.
It is being designed and constructed to meet the standards issued by the National Capital Commission, as well as obtaining LEED Gold certification.
Minister of Public Works and Government Services Rosa Ambrose estimates 625 new jobs will be created over the next three and a half years as a result of the project.
The building will be completed and ready for occupancy by the end of 2014.
