Fire leaves one person without a home

A fire on Friday night in a basement apartment forced one person to find a new place to live, the Ottawa Fire Services said in a press release.

Fire fighters responded to a 911 call at 53 Maclaren St. reporting heavy smoke coming from the apartment at 10 p.m. on Friday.

It took 30 minutes for the fire to be put out. There were no injuries to either fire fighters or residents, according to the Ottawa Fire Services.

Both the Salvation Army and the Red Cross have offered assistance to those affected by the blaze.
