Hunt wary of CFL investment

Ottawa 67’s president and governor Jeff Hunt says he’s been approached by a couple of groups organizing ownership alliances in the event a CFL team returns to Ottawa.

Hunt is interested as both a fan and a businessman in being part of an ownership group that would bring the CFL back to Ottawa, but he also has serious reservations.

“I’d love to see it happen,” says Hunt. “But I have two major problems with it.” He says the CFL’s expansion fees aren’t viable. “If you’re a philanthropist and have millions of dollars to spend that you don’t expect to get back, that’s one thing,” says Hunt. “If you’re a businessman seeking to make a profit, the options aren’t realistic.”

“My plate is pretty full right now and I would only allow myself to become involved (with a CFL franchise) if I could commit myself to it and do it on a very personal level,” says Hunt. “I’m not saying my situation couldn’t change three months from now.”
