Arthur Street

Arthur Street is a quiet, unassuming street located in a well-known and busy part of Centretown. At its corner with Somerset Street, Arthur is marked by the popular and well-established Kowloon Market.

Cambridge Street Public School, a hub of community involvement, backs onto Arthur Street and the residential road. Surrounding streets are busy on Saturdays when families gather at the public school for Chinese classes. A focus on language and cultural roots draws many people from Chinatown to the street to attend the classes.

Arthur Street is one of the few remaining affordable streets in Centretown. However, the street’s proximity to Chinatown, and the new beautiful arch that adorns it, is drawing the attention of many buyers.

Historically, Arthur Street has been popular for student and immigrant renters; however, it is currently getting a face-lift, and prices are on the rise.

Many houses on Arthur show signs of renovation, and the weekends ring with the sounds of hammers and table-saws. Several homes stand out from the others, boasting fresh coats of bright paint, and brand-new porches.

Arthur Street’s proximity to Chinatown’s great restaurants, the Raw Sugar Café, a public school and McNabb Park – as well as its two community resources for Chinese culture – is causing Arthur Street to transition from a drab street in a proud neighbourhood to a street full of renovated promise.
