Dewar considering NDP leadership bid

Ottawa Centre’s high-profile MP, Paul Dewar, has confirmed that he is thinking about running for the leadership of the NDP.

Dewar, who is attending a French-immersion course in Quebec, told The Ottawa Citizen Thursday that he’s at the point” where “he’s “seriously considering it.”
Dewar , his party’s foreign affairs critic, has long been considered a possible candidate.

He told The Citizen that he has been encouraged to make a bid by other members of the NDP caucus and supporters across the country.
The leadership became vacant when Jack Layton died recently after achieving a historic breakthrough in the last federal election to become  the official opposition for the first time, replacing the Liberals.

The majority of its MPs are from Quebec.
The date of a leadership convention has not been announced.
