Fire at Barbarella’s arson, police say

Ottawa police say an arsonist is responsible for a fire that started early Monday morning at a downtown strip club.

No one was injured and damage to Barbarella’s Cabaret at 340 Queen Street is estimated to be approximately $150,000.

Police are investigating the fire after a sledgehammer and gasoline cans were found outside the site of the fire.

Police have yet to make an arrest in connection with the blaze, according to a media relations officer.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at approximately 4:50 a.m. They were able to bring the small fire in the foyer of the building under control in less than an hour.

A sprinkler system inside the building put out most of the fire before crews arrived.

A section of Queen Street between Bay and Lyon was closed down until 6:35 a.m. as firefighters battled the blaze.
