The National Arts Centre unveiled a new logo and tagline on Tuesday morning as a first step in rebranding for its 50th anniversary in 2019.
The new logo is rectangular with a triangle in the middle to symbolize a spotlight. The design, created by Toronto-based firm Scott Thornley + Company, is the NAC’s newest logo in 45 years.
The new tagline is "Canada is our stage."
The logo and tagline are part of what the NAC is calling the “Road to 2019,” a series of events and milestones leading up to its 50th anniversary.
“We’re very excited about this first step,” said Rosemary Thompson, director of communications and public affairs at the NAC.
“It’s been 18 months in the making and the whole idea was to make sure we were presenting our national role to Canadians,” she said.
Thompson said the new slogan is an expression that reflects the NAC’s role as a national institution that serves Canadians across the country.
The Road to 2019 will also include events such as the NAC orchestra performing in the United Kingdom and touring in October of this year, the Ontario Scene festival in the spring of 2015 and the Canada Scene festival in 2017.
