Tallest building plan approved by city council

Ottawa’s skyline is set to get its tallest addition yet.

On Wednesday, city council approved Richcraft Homes’ proposal for three condos at 845 Carling Ave. in Little Italy. Richcraft is the largest landowner in Ottawa, according to its website.

The 55 storey tower will overlook Dow’s Lake and be the tallest building in Ottawa. The other two are planned to be 45 and 18 storeys. The site is expected to have 1,120 units as well as commercial space.

Ottawa zoning regulations say the current maximum height for a building at that location is 11 metres, or 3 storeys. The city will receive $3.4 million from the developer for “community benefits” as a result of the exception.
