Police search for suspects after shots fired in Lowertown

Ottawa police are asking for public help in an investigation based on reports of shots fired in Lowertown early Sunday morning.

At 5:30 a.m. witnesses reported gunshots close to the University of Ottawa campus. The guns and gangs unit responded to the call, taping off the entrances to a few buildings and blocking the intersection of Rideau and Nelson streets, Sgt. Blaire Stanton said.

No one is under arrest and there hasn’t been any property damage or injuries reported to the police. Stanton said three men were in custody this morning, but they were all released without being charged.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Ottawa police guns and gangs unit (613-236-1222  ext. 5050) or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-8477).
