Ottawa 2017 and Roots team up for 150th celebration in the capital

Mayor Jim Watson and Ottawa 2017, in collaboration with their lead sponsor CIBC, announced today that Roots is now the official apparel and leather goods retailer of Ottawa 2017.

“We’re proud to have a highly respected, Canadian brand like Roots team up with us for Ottawa 2017 celebrations,” said Watson.

Roots is a proud Canadian company founded in 1973, with more than 240 retail stores in Canada, Asia and the United States. They employ more than 1,500 people in Canada.

“As Canada has always been an inseparable part of Roots, it’s only natural that we’re involved in this great initiative,” said Michael Budman, co-founder of Roots. “We’re proud to celebrate this wonderful milestone for Canada in a partnership with Ottawa 2017 which is very much in keeping with our passion for this incredible country.”

Roots will also be keeping the hundreds of volunteers warm during the 2017 celebrations by donating their products to outfit the Ottawa 2017 team.

A portion of the profits from sales of Ottawa 2017 Roots products will be returned to organizers and will be invested in “enhanced programming for the celebration,” as stated in a press release published at ottawa2017.ca on Thursday.
