Lisgar plans reunion

Ottawa’s oldest secondary school, Lisgar Collegiate Institute, will be celebrating its 160th reunion May 28-30, 2004. Former students, teachers, family and friends are cordially invited. Events will include a dinner/dance at the Ottawa Congress Centre, a golf tournament, an alumni assembly, school tours, decade rooms and coffee with former teachers. read more

Stop complaining or get out

In response to David A. Blackman who wrote a letter complaining about all the problems he encounters living in Centretown: Why does he even want to live in a city’s downtown in the first place?

He hates the noise coming from Elgin Street, but what would he rather have? An entertainment district that closes at five? He is supportive of maintaining the “environment/historical beauty” of Centretown, yet enjoys those ghastly silver rings around poles the city set up for posters. Artists and musicians use public spaces to attract people to their shows. The gritty areas of a city also give it some character. read more

Noise, poster problems ‘ignored’

The recent issues of Centretown News have covered a wide-range of very interesting articles however, I do hope that in future issues there will be coverage on other concerns that are also affecting the Centretown community.

Noise problems on Elgin Street: This is an ongoing problem which has had a very profound effect on residents in Centretown who live on streets adjacent to the Elgin Street bars for quite some time. It is an issue which the media in this city have only provided token coverage to, but it is a problem which residents in this area of Ottawa have had to endure, without much relief or support for many years. read more
